2.2.1.2.4. Tema-betsu Chu-kyu kara Manabu Nihongo (Theme-Sorted Intermediate Level Japanese)

[Better known as "Theme-betsu Chu-kyu" amongst the students and staff of Yamasa. Using a Japanese verb as a theme per chapter, this textbook attempts to dig into the values and philosphies of modern Japanese people and its society. The themes presented range from Japanese similies, ancient sayings and proverbs, daily-life, family, the workplace, to mass-media and an introduction to post-war Japan. Each chapter also has grammar drills, new vocabulary/kanji lists as well as comprehension questions.

In comparison with other textbooks of the same level, this textbook places more focus on reading and writing Japanese. However, the themes presented provide good starting-points for debates and discussions in class. In addition, the wide range of vocabulary and expressions equip students with enough Japanese to be able to read and listen to simple Japanese newspaper articles and news reports.]
